Swing Bed Program

The Swing Bed Program at Kingman Community Hospital (KCH) is designed to provide short-term services to our patients who require additional services following their initial hospital stay.

Discharge Planning/Social Services

During your stay, discharge planning needs are addressed, options are explored, and if needed, services are arranged for your post-hospital care.

When planning for discharge, every patient and/or caregiver has the freedom to choose the provider of their post-hospital care. In order to assist you with these decisions, KCH will provide a list of community-based services available for post-hospital care in Kingman County.

Advance Directives

Advance Directives are legal documents that allow you to communicate your decisions about end-of-life care. They provide a way for you to convey your wishes to family, friends and health care professionals. KCH offers three Advance Directives, which are authorized by the State of Kansas.

The Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare Decisions allows you to name a healthcare agent to make healthcare decisions for you when you cannot make decisions for yourself. The Healthcare Power of Attorney Covers only healthcare. Your healthcare agent must follow your wishes. Your caregivers must respect the choices your healthcare agent makes for you.

The Living Will lets you refuse life-prolonging treatment, such as a feeding or breathing machine, when you are dying and there is no treatment that can prevent your death. The Living Will applies only when you can no longer speak for yourself and two doctors (one of whom is your attending physician) certify you are dying. You will still receive comfort measures and pain management.

The Do-Not-Resuscitate Directive (DNR) allows you to refuse cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The purpose of CPR is to restore breathing and a heart beat, and prevent death. Most people should not sign a DNR unless they are already dying or under hospice care. If you decide to sign a DNR directive, your doctor must also sign it.

At KCH, we can assist you with obtaining advance directive forms.

Additional Services

We can also provide assistance with insurance, and can answer any questions regarding social services.
